Welcome to my very last blog post! I have really enjoyed having my very own blog, and I hope that more people around the world get into blogging. Blogging is amazing, and it is one of my favorite activities to do in my spare time.
Well, please comment and tell me what you have liked about my blog, or website.
Today, everyone in our class brought in some kind of breakfast food, and so did our buddies! We had a lot of food, almost a feast! We also got to watch a movie called "The Bee Movie," that I think everyone enjoyed.
I brought in yogurt. There was also fruit salad (blackberries, raspberries, and strawberries,) kiwi, strawberries, cookies, dried mango, cheesy goldfish crackers, sweet and savory popcorn, sweet biscuits, eggs, scrambled eggs, pancakes, Swedish pancakes, cheese, apple, no bakes, brownies, muffins, quesadillas, sausage rolls, mini sausages, French bread, bread, jam, and butter, ham sandwiches, pretzels, and yogurt!
Andrew also brought in a juicer, so there was pineapple, watermelon, berry, and kiwi juice to drink! I got to help with making the juice, which was fun, but really messy!
I had an awesome time!

Welcome to my Student Led blog post! I am going to be explaining about my improvments throughout the year in all of my subjects, as well as a reflection to go with each one. Enjoy!

I think I have really improved on maths since the beginning of the year. For example, at the beginning of the year I did not know my times tables, but now I know them all and can recite them very quickly!
I think my stength is working with fractions, because I have improved on equivalent fractions, improper fractions, and mixed numbers.
I think I could improve on working with decimals. I have never found decimals very easy, and the unit we are working on right now, discounts, is a challenge for me.

Unit Of Inquiry

During the year, we did five different units of inquiry. How We Organise Ourselves, How We Express Ourselves, Who We Are, The Exhibition, and Space (our current unit.) I am going to explain about each of these units!

How We Organize Ourselves

In this unit we created communities with 2 to 5 other people. My group was a charity store, called UNICEF For The Best, and my group members were Phoebe and Maggy. Each month we had a sale in the lunchroom for a different grade, all of our earnings going to UNICEF, a charity supporting children in unfortunate situations. The different things we sold ranged from books, to puzzles, to toys!

How We Express Ourselves

In this unit, we learned about different religions and beliefs, and how different people with different religions live their everyday life. During this unit, we took many field trips to different temples and churches, to lean about the religions conveyed there. We went on many different field trips, including a Chi Lin Nunnery (buddhism,) a Hindu Temple (Hinduism,) a Christian Cathedral (Christianity,) an Islamic Mosque (Muslim,) a Jewish Synagogue (Judaism,) and a Sikh Temple (Sikhism.) I really enjoyed learning about all the different religions in the world.
During this unit, we also did an essy called a compare and contrast essay, where we picked to religions to.... compare and contrast! I picked Judaism, and Christianity. I chose to compare food rules, and what things these two religions can and cannot eat. Here is a link to it.

Who We Are

In this unit, we learned all about the different learning styles, and which ones we are. My two main learning styles were Musical and Naturalistic. I agree with that, because I love the outdoors and gardening, and I love music and playing the drums! During this unit, we also got to do a lot of reflecting on the learners we are.

You may not know, but the exhibition was a whole unit in its self! It was a very long process, 10 weeks to be exact, but it was a lot of fun! During this process, we got to form groups based around a problem, and then we got to research the problem. My problem was litter, and my partner was Daksha. Our mentor was Kim. She helped us throughout the whole process, and in the end, she got to get one of our cool exhibition T - shirts too!
Our action was to make a campaign, and to put our logo all over the bins in the primary school. It took about two hours to finish the job, but I think it was worth it - it has made a difference!

This is our current unit, and I am really enjoying it! For this unit, we get to create our own radio shows on Garage Band, and show them to the class. My partner is Astrid, and our radio show is about a Martian from Mars called Bob coming in disguise to Earth, and attempting to take over it. It is really funny, and it takes place in the middle of an interview! I play a space scientist called Alicia King, and in the show, I am being interviewed by my friend, Sophia Morrison (Astrid.) It is almost finished, we just have to edit and redo some parts.

Art isn't my favourite subject, but I still enjoy it! Every week on Wednesday we go to the art room, and we usually have a project to work on, which usually lasts about a month. We also did Artists In Residence, and this year we got to work with Miguel, making a GIANT snake out of decorated bottles, which you can find in the library. I had tons of fun decorating bottles! After Our 3 days with Miguel, we got to try out another of the activities being done. We got to work with Warren Wills, who was a composer. He helped us write a song about Maralyn Monroe, because he was writing a play about her at the time. Warren was really amazing at playing the piano, because he could just start playing, without any music! It was really cool!

I really love to write! I have written many stories, including the one I am just finishing up now, Anywhere But Here. It is my historical fiction story, and you can access it here.
In Grade Four, I also wrote An Odd Group, The Fantasy Charm Bracelet, and Gifts. I will continue writing stories for a long time, and maybe even become a writer!

I have really enjoyed this blogging experience, and I really would like to have my own blog. I try to blog every two to three days, but now I will not be able to blog anymore - this is my last post!
I think blogging is really connected to writing, because I feel the same way when I write, and blog. I hope to continue blogging (and writing) in the future!

I have really enjoyed my year, and I hope you have enjoyed my Student Led Conference!
Today I had a playdate with Darcy after school! We had a load of fun! First we took the bus home, then after we had arrived we went up to Darcy's room. There we played with my ipod Touch for a bit, and then we had something to eat. After that we went to Wellcome (I know it looks like it is spelt wrong, but that is what the shop is called!) and bought some candy, Vitamin Water, and chips. Then we walked home in the pouring rain, and I got soaked because we only had one really small umbrella! Then we were relived to arrive home to dryness. After we had arrived home, we had some mac and cheese, and went upstairs again to Darcy's room to eat the things we had bought. Then we went downstairs and played on the computer for a bit. Then the computer cut out, so we played Tap Tap on my ipod Touch. Darcy always won! It was so unfair! Then my mom arrived, but talked to Datcy's mom for ages! So we kept playing Tap Tap, and Darcy kept winning. Finally, our moms stopped talking and I took a taxi home. I had an awesome time!
Here is a video of two of my friends and I singing "When You Believe", which is from the movie Aladdin. We take turns singing the verses, then we sing the chorus together. I sing the first verse, then Leilanie, then Olivia.
I had a great time working on the exhibition, even though it was tiring at times! But now that it is over, it is time to write a reflection!
I think one thing my group did well during the exhibition was being able to get people interested in our subject. We always answered people's questions, and got them interested by getting them to learn more about our problem, and action. I think we were also good at explaining to people about our action. Our action was to put our group's logo on the bins in the school, and we had a bin with our logo on it, so it was easy to explain.
Here is a photo of Daksha and I getting people interested in our group.
I think one thing I did well as an individual was getting people to play our game. When I was a guide, I asked the little kids if they wanted to play our game, and helped them with the answers to the questions. I also made sure that not too many people came to our stand, because then kids got upset that they could not all play the game. Phoebe also told kids about the game, and brought them over to our stand.
Here is a photo of me helping some K5 kids play our game.
One thing I think I could have done better on was telling people about the information we found out. I mostly talked about our action, and I think I could have explained a bit more about our information that we found out. If I was to do another big project like this, that is what I would work on.
Here is a person from the pink dolphins group talking to a person visiting their stand.
Here is the rubric I made and marked myself.
Hi people! Have you been wondering how the exhibition has been going so far? Read on to find out....
I am going to answer some questions that Andy assigned for us to answer. The first question is, "what have you done for your exhibition group so far?" We have been doing many things, but the latest thing we have done is start to put our logos on the bins in the school. We are about halfway. We have also been working hard to merge our concept questions together, for the real exhibition.
Next question.... "what do you still have to do?" Today Daksha and I started designing a game that we will let people play on the day of the exhibition. We plan to get together on Friday afternoon, and add the finishing touches to it (we are doing most of our work at school.) We also have to make a slide show to show to the people coming to the exhibition.
The next question is, "do you have any concerns about the exhibition?" I have to say, the only thing I am really concerned about is time. We currently only have 4 days in school to get everything sorted, and I am a bit worried about that!
Next question, "is there any area of the exhibition that you are really proud of?" For meI am really proud of the fact that we have started to put the logos around the bins in the school. I thought it would take much more organizing, and we got it done so quickly. That is what I am really proud of.
And the last question, "what will somebody learn when they come to your presentation next week?" They will learn about the process in putting the logos on the bins in the school. They will learn all the steps, and thing we had to do.
This week for the student blogging challenge, our challenge is to give tips for new bloggers, as well as what a good subject to write about is, and how to successfully blog.
I'm going to start with some tips for beginners. I think a great way to start blogging, is to write some things about you. It can be as simple as your likes and dislikes, hobbies, or even the pets you own. Just remember, never reveal your personal details, like your address, phone number, or full name. I also wrote a blog post about not putting your picture on your blog, which you can access here. Another tip is to remember that a blog is not a journal. Try not to overuse phrases like "and then I", or "so then."
To me a good blog subject is anything that will keep your reader interested. Try not to write too much about one thing, because it is likely that your reader will get bored. If a lot of things happen to me in one day, I try not to write a million blog posts about those things, but instead write one blog post about my day, explaining all of those things in it.
There are many ways to successfully blog, but to me the main one is to get someone to check your post for spelling errors. Don't you just hate it when you get to your favorite blog, but there are so many errors in the post you are reading? If the person is someone you know, or is in your class, offer to edit their post.
Today was crazy hair day! I saw so any weird outfits and hairstyles, it was unbelievable! My favorite was Leilanie's!
For my hair, I used temporary hair colour to make my hair red, pink and green (but the green didn't really show up.) But a while later I decided to change it. Ellen made it into a really cool topknot, that looked crazy with my dyed hair!
I had a great time!
